Such a Joy Reflection

Welcome to the Psalms of Our Lives series. In the episode ‘Such a Joy, I will share my story and song of praise about what it means to find joy in the Lord.
If asked what brings you joy, your response might be, “I have a purpose for my life. ” You may also share listening to the waves splashing against the shoreline. Joy comes from within. A person filled with joy is easy to be around, and people are often attracted to an individual. When I have days of joy, people hear me humming melodies, and my demeanor is open to being people-positive.
“A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love.” – Mother Teresa
One of my happy places is hiking in Sabino Canyon. This place is magical because I experience God’s creation without the interruptions of man-made devices. I hear the birds chirping, see deer trotting, and stand in wonder under the giant Saguaro cactus. I can only imagine the Garden of Eden before mankind’s fall.
But wait, we have an adversary who intends to rob us of joy and life. He comes at us from many different angles, including 1) our mind and flesh, 2) our family, and 3) the world. We must protect our hearts so that our joy is not taken from us. We have a choice not to surrender easily. We have a Lord and Savior who chases after us and gives us a life filled with purpose and joy.
Word of Guidance: Psalms 16:11 NLT. “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” Psalms 16:11 NLT.
Philippians 4:4 ERV.“Always be filled with joy in the Lord. I will repeat it. Be filled with joy.” Philippians 4:4 ERV.
In 2009, after visiting my mother’s church on St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, I was in a space of thanksgiving and joy, and I started writing the music and words for the song ‘Such a Joy.’ In 2013, I completed the song and later published it in my book, Prayers to My Abba Father God. The words to help me sing the song of thanksgiving follow:
It is such a joy to be your child
It is such a joy to call you Dad
It is such a joy to live life with you
Abba, Father, God, your love is Divine
It is such a joy to praise your name
It is such a joy to pray to you
It is such a joy to love in your name
Abba, Father, God, your love is Divine
Abba, Father, God, your love is Divine
Prayer: Abba Father God, It is such a joy to be accepted into your family. I could not earn nor deserve the grace and love you poured out for me, your child. I shout for joy, singing songs of praise to you for a purposeful life. Thank you for giving me joy. In Jesus name, Amen.
Take A Moment To Reflect:
- How are you protecting your joy today?
- What behaviors show up when your joy is present?
Until next time, create space to connect with your Abba, Father, God, and:
- Be Aware: You can choose joy over pain.
- Be in Gratitude: Having a God who calls me a friend is amazing.
- Be Praising: Sing a song of praise. Speak openly with your Abba Father God.
Be Blessed, Beloved
